Three UK geographic area reports have been retired from the Observatory
• Spend by Primary Care Trust
• Spend by Strategic Health Authority
• Spend by County
The reports were from the Geography folder in the Analyse application
Why were they retired?
They were no longer areas in which customers needed to analyse spend.
Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and Strategic Health Authorities were abolished in 2013 and replaced with clinical commissioning groups.
Analysis by county boundary is not an area that is applicable to the majority of our customers due to their organisation’s structure.
The decision to retire them and was made after consultation with our customers and as part of our ongoing Observatory development.
Will they be replaced?
We heard that the remaining geographic areas in the Observatory suit all requirements so there are no plans to replace the reports for the time being.
For the majority of our customers the Local Authority Area and ONS Region reports cover all requirements, as does the postcode report.
Don’t forget that you can always use the Filter Builder to define your own area.
In Scotland the Health Boards are aligned with the Local Authority Areas, so simply pick the Local Authority Areas you need and then type in the name of the Health Board when you save the filter.
Alternatively, pick the postcodes that define the area you wish to analyse and then save them naming the filter accordingly.
If you feel that there is a standardised geographic area that should be in the Observatory then please let us know and we will get in touch to find out more!
